The buzz about the recent awards show was significant, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team could be building a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it pioneered the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, player agency, and complex character building—traits that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a unique decision path.
The series is also famously open-ended, allowing players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be solved in diverse methods, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might progress the story because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
